Movie in MOTION

As the 1st assistant director, it is my responsibility to ensure the execution of the production schedule and maintain safe practices on-set.

During preproduction it was my role to handle the scheduling and organisation of the shoot, ensuring the cast and crew are up to date with everything they need to know. Handling the important set related documentation such as callsheets, one liner schedules, shoot order, etc. In order to perform my job correctly, I need to stay on top of every single thing thats happening on-set. As I handle the logistics, this allows the director to focus on crafting the best possible performance.

The Motion set was pretty breezey, but not without trying. The simplicity of the concept allowed for a fair amount of experimentation meaning I had to mentally adjust the schedule to adhere to the time constraints successfully.

It was a valuable learning experience as I was able to practice my 1st AD skillset in an applied setting. The crew was faced with a number of technical challenges regarding external electrical equipment as we utilised the Virtual Studio and had to become familiar with the new technology which caused some unexpected delays but also required an extra level of care in regards to personal safety and care of equipment. This called for me to be extra alert and on top of crew activity. As a result, we were able to create something fantastic that our client and audiences were pleased with!
